Faraday Rocketry UPV drives aerospace innovation through the design, manufacture, and launch of sounding rockets, validating advanced engineering solutions under real flight conditions.

History

Faraday Rocketry UPV was founded as a multidisciplinary team focused on the end-to-end development of sounding rockets, covering everything from structural design and propulsion to avionics and recovery systems. These systems are developed and manufactured entirely by the team, enabling them to undertake highly technically complex projects.

The validation of these developments is carried out through real launches at specialised facilities such as the El Arenosillo Experimentation Centre (CEDEA) of the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA), where the rockets reach demanding operating conditions. Participation in international competitions such as the European university rocketry championship (EuRoC) makes it possible to benchmark these advances in a highly competitive environment, driving continuous improvement and innovation.

One of the team’s most significant milestones has been the development of the Origin rocket, with which they managed to surpass the national amateur launch record in 2026, reaching an altitude of 10.8 kilometres and speeds close to 2,500 km/h. This launch has made it possible to validate key technologies and position the team as a benchmark in the field of university aerospace engineering.

This achievement is part of an already well-established track record, with previous launches and successes in international competitions, which are driving the team towards more demanding projects and goals such as access to space from the university.

Impact

  • Development of complete sounding rockets, integrating structures, propulsion, avionics, and recovery
  • Real launches at professional facilities such as CEDEA (INTA)
  • Two‑time European champions at EuRoC (2023 and 2025)
  • National amateur altitude record with 10,843 metres of apogee
  • Development of the first two-stage rocket built by students in Spain
  • Validation of critical technologies: stage separation, in-flight ignition, and telemetry
