The UPV joins SENTIATECH, the Spanish innovation network for environmental monitoring

The membership, promoted by the IIAMA, will strengthen the UPV's participation in collaborative R initiatives to face major environmental and technological challenges
The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has strengthened its presence in the main national innovation forums by joining the Spanish technological platform SENTIATECH. This network brings together companies, universities, technology centers, and research organizations to promote the development of advanced technologies for pollutant detection, risk prevention, and environmental monitoring at a national level.
The membership, promoted by the University Institute for Research in Water and Environmental Engineering (IIAMA), was formalized in March 2026. This new link will increase the UPV’s participation in collaborative RDI initiatives aimed at responding to major environmental and technological challenges.
The university’s representation on the platform is held by Javier Paredes, Director of the IIAMA, who considers this incorporation to be “a strategic opportunity to increase the UPV’s relational capital and enhance the impact of its research results.” In his opinion, participation in SENTIATECH will allow the university’s capabilities to be placed at the service of real challenges, contribute to defining technological priorities, and participate in high-impact collaborative projects.
“SENTIATECH allows us to connect with public and private entities that share interests in areas such as safety, health, and the environment. Furthermore, it facilitates the identification of technological trends, sector needs, and opportunities to promote applied research projects,” highlights Carlos A. García, Research Manager at IIAMA.
A collaborative ecosystem for environmental innovation
Created at the end of 2023, SENTIATECH promotes collaboration between companies, public administrations, universities, and technology centers to develop innovative solutions related to pollutant detection, environmental monitoring, chemical and biological safety, and digital technologies applied to risk control. Its working groups facilitate the identification of sector needs and the implementation of R projects with an impact on areas such as water quality, air quality, or environmental health.
For the UPV, being part of this ecosystem means reinforcing its strategic positioning, expanding collaboration opportunities with companies and administrations, and favoring participation in national and European projects, in addition to contributing to the definition of future lines of innovation and funding.
An opportunity for research and transfer in the environmental sector
Although the incorporation was promoted by the IIAMA, the benefits reach the entire UPV research community. Institutes, centers, and research groups working in areas such as environmental engineering, water treatment, microbiology, sensors, artificial intelligence, applied chemistry, biotechnology, or data analysis will be able to access a specialized network of public and private entities, detect new collaboration opportunities, and promote joint R projects.
At the same time, the UPV provides SENTIATECH with a wide range of scientific and technological capabilities in areas such as environmental engineering, pollutant monitoring, microbiological control, environmental modeling, artificial intelligence, or advanced materials. This multidisciplinary vision will contribute to strengthening the platform’s working groups and accelerating the transfer of knowledge towards solutions with an impact on society.
Looking to the future
The IIAMA is confident that the UPV’s participation in SENTIATECH will generate new scientific and technological collaboration opportunities and reinforce the university’s positioning in this field.
“We hope to maintain active participation and play a relevant role in the development of the platform, contributing to strengthening its national and international projection,” says Yolanda Moreno, Head of the BIOMICA Group at IIAMA, promoter of the participation in the Platform and member of its Scientific Committee, who concludes that “belonging to networks like SENTIATECH constitutes an excellent opportunity to connect R with social challenges and accelerate the transfer of knowledge towards innovation.”
