Construction Engineering and Civil Engineering Projects Department

Location: Vera Campus

The Department of Construction Engineering and Civil Engineering Projects revolutionizes the foundations of infrastructure by combining advanced research, solid teaching, and real-world application.

The department integrates teaching, research, and transfer in areas such as construction materials, construction techniques, structures, concrete, building construction, and civil projects. Its teaching-research community comes from areas such as construction engineering and civil projects, and offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees focused on solving sustainability, efficiency, and safety challenges in the built environment. In addition, it maintains close ties with industry and constant collaboration with administrations, combining scientific innovation with practical solutions.

Within the department is the Project-Construction Process Management Group, but most of the department’s professors conduct their research at the University Research Institute of Concrete Science and Technology. Other professors carry it out in other research structures (Center for Physical Technologies: Acoustics, Materials and Astrophysics, Research Center in Aquaculture and Environment).

Project-Construction Process Management Group (ProCon)
This group focuses on the application of advanced techniques to improve the management and direction of construction projects. Some of its main lines of research include:

  • Project management: Development of models and methods to improve planning, programming, and control processes in engineering projects, as well as change and risk management.
  • Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA): Techniques such as AHP, ANP, PROMETHEE, TOPSIS or PRES to assist in complex decision-making, such as project portfolio selection, contractors, facility location, and asset valuation.
  • Sustainable project design and processing: Ecodesign, life cycle analysis (LCA), and creation of more energy-efficient and less polluting products and processes.
  • Tendering and public procurement: Predictive models for economic offers in public tenders, seeking to reduce subjectivity and gain competitiveness in the market.

In addition, the group conducts research in energy simulation of buildings, integrating monitoring and savings proposals in existing buildings.
