Nanophotonic Technology University Research Institute

Location: Vera Campus

The Nanophotonic Technology Center Institute (NTC) is committed to the development of photonic technologies for industry at the local, national, and international levels.

The NTC has three main research areas: Nanophotonics for health and detection (Biophotonics, Photonic Technologies for Applied Analysis, and THz Photonics & Optical Signal Processing), Nanophotonics for communications (Optical Networks and Photonic Systems, Integrated Photonic Devices, Integrated Photonic Systems and Applications, and Plasmonics, Optomechanics & Chiral Photonics), and Nanophotonics for energy (Materials and Artificial Surfaces, III-V Semiconductors and Graphene, New Nanomaterials for Nanophotonics, and Photonics for Photovoltaics).

The NTC has a 500 m2 clean room (class 10-100-10,000) equipped with a complete production line for micro/nanofabrication on silicon with CMOS compatible technology that allows the processing of both photonic and microelectronic integrated circuits. The facility is part of one of the Singular Scientific Technical Infrastructures of Spain and is offered both to internal groups of the Institute and to research groups and external technology companies (national and international) that may require its capabilities.

The main objective of the NTC’s strategic planning is to become a shared infrastructure and common platform, as it integrates an important part of the equipment mainly based on silicon technologies for 150 mm and 200 mm wafers, although it can also operate with substrates of different materials and sizes as required.

The NTC is one of the research centers with the most European projects, and the first spin-off company of the UPV, DAS PHOTONICS, emerged from it.
